Thomas Atariachta

In July of 1856, Thomas Atariachta, son of Joseph Auauvoie/Attauvoic and Marie Kainago of the Sault St Louis dioceses of Montreal, and Marie Kawtshine were married, after bans had been posted and no legal impediment to the marriage was found.  The witnesses were Augustin Willing and Narcisse Falardeau.  The priest was Father Lootens.

It should be noted that in the original handwritten French:

  • Thomas' surname is recorded as "Atteleacht"
  • Joseph's surname was difficult to read.  "Auauvoie" and "Attauvoic" are the two best guesses
  • Marie is recorded as "d'une femme Kawtshine nommeé Marie" -- at least it looks like "Kawtshine"
  • Thomas, Marie, and Narcisse signed with Xs
  • Augustin signed his own name
