Fermin Ayotte


The Hudson's Bay Company Archives has put biographical sheets for some of their employees online.  One for Fermin Ayotte can be found at:

     On 1 July 1856 Fermin Ayotte, son of Joseph and Pelagie Velmure of Batinan near Trois Rivičres, and a Katzie woman named Suzanne, were married, after the posting of bans and finding no legal impediments, Father Lootens performed the benediction of marriage.  The witnesses were Augustin Willing and Narcisse Falardeau.

     It should be noted that on the handwritten French original:

  • Fermin is recorded as "F. Ayotte" and as "Firmin"; he signed with an X
  • Suzanne is recorded as "une femme Keitse nommeé Suzanne"; she signed with an X
  • witness Augustin Willing is recorded as "Aug Willing"; he signed his name
  • witness Narcisse Falardeau is recorded as "N Falardeau"; he signed with an X
