At Fort Langley, in July of 1856, John Bell, son of John James Bell and a Chikeelis woman, and Nathalie a Quytlen woman, were married, after the posting of bans and no legal impediment to the marriage being found.  The witnesses were Augustin Willing and Narcisse Falardeau.  The priest was Father Lootens.

It should be noted that in the original handwritten French:

  • when John Bell's mother was being recorded, Father L first wrote "Quytlen", then crossed it out and wrote "Chikeelis
  • Nathalie and Narcisse signed with Xs
  • John and Augustin signed their names
