Brigade Days
2008

Brigade Days is held every year over the BC Day long weekend in August.  To see how the first descendants' reunion in 2001 went, please see Home Coming 2001

Historically, Brigade was when the fur trappers came down from their trap lines to the fort, to trade, some took their annual baths and looked for a new spouse, and in general caught up wit friends they hadn't seen since the year before.

Fort Langley's Brigade Days is an echo of those historical brigades.  Though we trade nothing more than stories and gossip, and bathe more than once a year, Fort Langley's Brigade Days are a good time to come to the fort and meet each other.  Barring natural disasters and über-efficient border guards, our founder and web mistress is a regular attendee of Brigade Days and can be found amongst the canvas tents, dressed as a Métisse who goes by the name of "Mary Huston".

A Heads-up for those concerned about these things:

Though the mosquitoes were a real problem earlier this year, they have settled down "a great deal".  That said, those who are sensitive to such things should indulge in their favorite insect repellent--just in case.  (There are still some mosquitoes but, hey, the fort's built along side a river.)

Children of Fort Langley Sesquicentennial Reunion

"Sesquicentennial" is a fancy word for "150th", and on 19 Nov 2008, British Columbia will officially be 150 years old.  During the Brigade Days weekend, the Fort contacted our founder, Lisa Peppan, and asked if she could put together a descendants reunion.  This will be our third reunion.  We've been trying to reach those who attended either the 1st or the 2nd reunion but some of the email addresses she has are no longer valid.  If you know someone who was at either reunion, ask'em if they know about this year.  If they don't, spread the word.

Can you help?  Sure you can!  Help spread the word.

If you descend from one of Fort Langley's Hudson's Bay Company employees,
we urge you contact us.

The Fort would like physical mailing addresses to send a genuine invitation to all the descendants.

Lisa can be reached at lisa@fortlangley.ca
